Before you convert
Table detection is heuristic; merged cells and complex layouts may not reconstruct accurately.
Extract PDF tables into an Excel workbook
PDF to Excel attempts to detect tabular content in a document and rebuild it as XLSX rows and columns you can sort, filter, and calculate on.
Table detection is heuristic: clean grid-based tables convert best, while free-form layouts, merged cells, and multi-column pages may produce a worksheet that needs manual restructuring.
Useful situations
- Pull invoice or statement tables into a spreadsheet for analysis.
- Convert report appendices into sortable data.
- Avoid retyping figures published only in PDF form.
How to use PDF to Excel
- Select a PDF within the size limit.
- Convert — each detected table becomes worksheet content.
- Open the XLSX and verify column alignment before using the data.
What to expect
- Merged and nested cells do not always map cleanly to a grid.
- Non-table page text may land in the sheet as unstructured rows.
- Always spot-check totals and column alignment against the PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Why do my converted columns not line up?
PDF tables are drawn positions, not real spreadsheet structure. The converter estimates the grid, and irregular layouts can shift values into adjacent columns.
Can it extract tables from a scanned PDF?
Scanned pages contain images, not text positions — the table content is not readable without OCR, which this tool does not perform.
Does it keep formulas or just values?
PDFs contain no formulas — only the displayed numbers. The XLSX receives the printed values as cell contents.
